While the North Koreans are pretty sure they can hit the Pacific Ocean with one of their missiles the US demonstrated that our missiles can actually hit their targets.
I think it is safe to say that this test was a message to NK.
We also gave some surface-to-air missiles to South Korea.

For some reason, as I read this news story, an image from a movie came into my mind. It was the scene in Lonesome Dove where the guy takes shots at Gus long distance with the sharps rifle - until Gus has enough and puts one in his belly while he's dancing around like an idiot assuming he's out of range.
....'cept the idiot who gets one in the belly was Kim Jong-il :)
