I've seen estimates of up to $250,000 that this cost us. He picked up the price of the tickets, so that saved us a little.
I'm probably committing heresy here but I'm having a hard time getting too worked up over this.
First, he isn't the only President to take off for a night or a weekend. Every time a President goes anywhere it costs a fortune.
Second, even if the estimates are low and the actual cost was $500,000, that is a drop in the bucket compared to all the other money that has been wasted by the government since he took office. Yes, every penny counts, but why argue over pennies when you are throwing $100 bills around like there's no tomorrow?
I'm not trying to say that I approve (as if anyone cares whether I approve or not) but I think this is more of a distraction from the real issues. Sort of like complaining that John Wayne Gacy's socks didn't match his shirt.
Let's not worry about $250,000 so much and worry more about the Supreme Court, and the national debt, and North Korea, and Iran, and the federal government taking over businesses.
Has anyone looked into how much we spend on SS protection for the President's kids when they go to school? How about how much we spend on SS protection for former Presidents?
With relatively young Presidents like Clinton, GWB, and the current President we will be paying for this protection for a long time, so I suggest you get used to it.

Agreed... needs to be seen in perspective.
The episode speaks volumes about where his head is at, though. As well as the motivation behind what he does as a liberal statist. I have a theory about why Liberals can appear so contradictory in behavior vs their professed rhetoric - while having no problem reconciling the two in their own head.
I'll have to blog it all out sometime, and see if it looks as reasonable as it does in my head.
Paladin,
I can't wait to see it.
I have that problem a lot - I have some idea and start typing but when I'm finished the results are not what I wanted.
I applaud your viewpoint.
MSM is so busy keeping us wrapped up in "we're the good party, they're the bad party" that we don't notice that Congress is delivering a screwing without benefit of a reacharound.
GRRRRRR.
