"Government: A disease masquerading as its own cure."
I don't know who said it first but I saw it here. The article is a little scary, don't you think?

Private health insurance isn't worth much. I have been paying about five grand a year for policies on my kids. But when my daughter got sick, I still got stuck with huge bills because of deductibles, co-insurance, and best of all, the difference between what Blue Cross allows for any test or procedure and what the hospital or doctor charges. I don't know the answer, but I know the medical system as it is is bullshit. Even better, it's common knowledge that if you have private health insurance, you are paying about 20% of your premium to cover the health care expenses of those who don't bother to buy it and get themselves a new truck or go to Cancun for a week. I'm not kidding, my bosses son has no health insurance, but just took his girl friend to Jamaica for a week long blow out.
The system may well be broken, but that is no excuse to totally destroy it. I think handing anything over to the federal government is one of the worst things you can do. Once the government gets involved there isn't even a way to calculate what it costs.
The hidden costs are always huge but it is impossible to calculate exactly what they are.
